We would like to remind our customers in Tooting, Earlsfield, Wimbledon, Balham and the wider South London area, that MOT certificates are a legal requirement for most vehicles over three years old on UK roads. The main exception is for some cars over forty years old. Drivers who fail to update their vehicle’s MOT can receive a fine of £1,000, or even £2,500 if the car is found to be in a dangerous condition.
MOT testing should be a priority for all motorists to ensure their vehicle is safe, both for themselves and other road users.
Class IV and Light Commercial Vehicle MOT Testing
MOTs involve a series of physical and visual checks to various parts of your car or van. The DVSA criteria, updated in May 2018, focuses on the safety of your vehicle, as well as the emissions and roadworthiness. At our MOT test centre in Tooting, we closely follow the government checklist and carry out over 150 interior and exterior inspections. MOT testing takes 45 minutes to an hour and check the following:
If any defects to your vehicle are found during the MOT test, these are categorised as minor, major or dangerous and you will be notified upon completion of the test. When it is just a minor defect, your car will pass the MOT but our inspectors will recommend that you get the defect looked at as soon as possible. This is vital as the inspection only goes by the acceptable standards on the day of appointment only, and minor problems could soon turn into something major.
Any major or dangerous problems found during the test will result in an MOT fail, but reputable MOT test centres such as our own in Tooting will offer to fix the cause promptly.
Prompt Car Repairs and Re-Tests
In the unfortunate event that your vehicle doesn’t pass the MOT, we will clearly explain the reasons for the failure. As a long-established MOT test centre built on trust, it is in our best interest to provide honesty and clarity. Our fully trained mechanics can undertake car repairs on any vehicle which has failed Class IV or light commercial vehicle MOT testing. Repairs are booked in for as soon as possible, often on the same day, and an MOT re-test carried out afterwards.
